GPS transponder on roof of 9-3 ss

I have a 2003 9-3 SS with 16,000 miles on it and until recently not a scratch on it.
Last week, I was backing out of my garage and I inadvertantly pushed the actuator for my garage door opener (causing the door to come down). Shortly after,I heard a sickening crunch that was the roof antenna being torn out.
I went to the SAAB dealer where I bought the car, and discussed my repair options. Then informed me that the antenna was actually the GPS transponder for the OnStar service. They estimated that a replacement antenna costs about $300, labor to replace it $200, and perhaps about $100 of labor for a body shop to remove a small dent on the roof.
Since I bought the car,I have not used the OnStar service and have no interest to extend the service beyond what was provided when I bought the car. So I am inclined to glue the transponder back on the roof and go on with my life except for one thing.... Every time I start the car, the SID gives me an annoying OnStar failure warning. Fortunately, the warning promptly goes away when I hit the clear button. The dealer informs me that they are unable to disable the warning and so they suggest that I either replace the transponder or live with clearing the warning every time I start the car.
My questions are (1) Does anyone know how to disable that warning on the display? and (2) Do I have a third choice for solving this problem?
I look forward to your advice.
