This happened to an acquaintance of mine (from Grad School).
He was driving his C-5 Vette down the highway and all of a sudden he couldn't steer the car.

Somehow he managed to slow the car down and get over to the shoulder due to the natural crown in the road.

He parked the car on the side of the road and literally walked away from the car shaking. Think about it, traveling at 65 or 70 MPH down the highway in traffic and all of a sudden not being able to steer the car. He refused to drive the car ever again after it was towed to the dealer and took a bath dumping the car when he traded in the car.

Needless to say, he doesn't drive a C-5 anymore. The area Chevrolet dealer wouldn't acknowledge that there was any issue with this and didn't even apologize for the "scare". He equated this to having both front tires fall off the front of the car and being at the mercy of the front rotors being able to steer the car to safety.

He's been considering a lawsuit purely based on the lack of interest in GM resolving the problem. "How many people have to die before you acknowledge that there is a major design or manufacturing issue and address it in a proper way?" was one of the more poignant sentences in a series of letters to GM.

He RAN away from GM and now drives a BMW M-5. I can't blame him for his actions. I’m not a fan of lawsuits, but since GM is making the decision at the corporate level to ignore this MAJOR safety issue, they deserve to be sued.
