uneven brake and accelerator pedal heights

Regarding the brake and accelerator pedals on Saab 93 2004 Arc. Unfortunately there is a significant difference in pedal height between the accelerator and the brake pedal necessitating lifting the foot off the accelerator and then applying the brake (instead of being able to rotate the foot directly from one to the other thus saving valuable time) this is a nuisance for my wife but more of a problem for my Mother as she has had both hips and knees replaced thus the lifting and hence the delay is problematic. The Saab service manager (who is usually right - unfortunately in this case) tells me nothing can be done which surprises me given safety is a major reason why we buy Saabs. I am contacting the bulletin board in the hope that this has been raised as a design / technical issue and that their may be a work around or solution
