The 150 watt, 7 speaker system does not have 6x9 speakers. It has the center, front 3.5", door 6.5", and rear 4.5". The 300 watt 13 speaker system adds 1" tweeters in the dash and rear package tray to complement the 3.5" and 4.5", respectively. The 13 speaker system also adds the 6x9's with a dedicated 150 watt amp.
So yes, your 4.5" speakers in the rear sound lousy.
I put Infinity speakers in my '03 Vector and it was much improved. The replacement 6x9's made the most difference. In your set-up, I would highly recommend adding some 6x9's, even if it was the factory 150watt->300watt upgrade package. However, running an aftermarket amp is tricky in these cars. You have to use speaker level inputs and you could get by with a 15 amp, 300 watt RMS unit with power from the rear fuse panel. Any more amps than that, and you may have to get power from the battery.
Best of luck!!
