Mike- i understand your post, however, you are a Saab salesman, so its not as if you are going to view it through the eyes of the consumer.
As for your statement of putting money at the top of the list when buying something somehow means that one probably never enjoys the ownership, be it a "luxury car like a Saab" or some other product, most people here would disagree. I had a 7 Series that I enjoyed a lot (ps- I bought it used so I wouldn't eat the depreciation) and I didn't pay top dollar (got it at wholesale from a friend who owns a dealership). Also, I shopped for a refinance rate on my house last year and ended up locking in the day that rates hit bottom (better to be lucky than good!).
My point is that price is usually a consideration. Now does that mean that one is always going to go with the cheapest alternative? Of course not. I view a car for what it really is: a utility. I go with the most efficient alternative based on the inputs in the formula that I use, e.g, size, safety, fuel economy, equipment, engine, appearance, looks or prestige, and yes, price, etc.
At the same time, I don't see Saab as a "luxury" brand in the same way that Mercedes is viewed and I'm someone that has owned 4 Saabs and like them. If someone asked me why I bought a Saab, my reply as a consumer would be that it represents, IMO, the best combination of the above factors. Since you sell Saabs, feel free, if you like, to show this posting to your potential customers as a testimonial for Saabs from someone who has owned 4 and will own more.
