This is for the 9-3 hatch, not the sport sedan. Sorry :) Don't have one of those. Maybe it is a similar fix.
I fixed the glove box rattles by applying small strips of black felt inside of the holes where the latches on the door catch. This works well because it takes up extra slack in the door and also cushions the place where the contact occurs. I made the strips from 3m double sided tape so that they would stick to the glove box and the felt would stick to them. I bought the felt at Wal-mart in the crafts aisle. The strips need to be pretty long and extend well outside of the holes so the catch doesn't pull them loose as it closes. It looks fine if you cut everything evenly. That got rid of about 90% of the rattling.
To clear up the rest, I also applied some sticky-backed foam sheets (also available at Wal-mart in the arts and crafts section) inside of the grooves in the dash at the base of the glove-box door where the struts slide into the dash. I applied them inside of the grooves, not on the door itself. This prevents side to side motion and cleared up the last of the rattling for me. As an added perk, it also gives the glove-box a nice soft release when you open it instead of the normal cheap feeling uncontrolled drop.
I also took out the radio and the SID, plus the radio basket and the SID basket/cup-holder and used some extra felt to shore up those areas. I had to be careful around the radio because I didn't want to trap too much heat. By experimenting a bit I was able to make that entire laughably creaky assembly much tighter. The dash board is now completely silent when I hit about 90% of the bumps in a day. It is like driving a different car. Now I just have to take off the door panels and start on those... I see more felt in my future, and probably some soft foam inserts...
Too bad that it looks like SAAB didn't get it right on the sport sedan either. I was hoping!
