Your salesperson was confused the 2002 maintenance schedule which is 10-20-30. The new 2003 9-3SS uses 6 quarts of 100% synthetic oil vs 4 quarts of semi-synthetic for the 2002, and under "normal" driving the oil life monitor in the SID will alert you of the need for service around 15k miles. I've had high mile fleet drivers, 30k per year, go 18k before the service indicator. There's also a days to service measurment as well for low mileage drivers.
The 30k service are triggered strictly by mileage at 30, 60, 90 etc.
All 9-3SS' are this way, Linear, Arc and Aero/Vector.
