Why it's necessary

Hey Steve,
Isn't this cost covered under the warranty's service contract? Or is this a mid-service oil change? An oil meeting GM-LL-A-025 is only necessary IF you're using the Oil Life System to tell you when to change the oil. In reality, there are several oils which will provide this level of protection, even though only a few meet this new GM eco-spec. Mobil 1 or Delvac 1 5W-40, Mobil 1 15W-50, & Amsoil 5W-40, 15W-40 & 20W-50 will all do the job, but you might get an argument from GM/Saab if you have a warranty claim. (Of course, they'd have to prove it was an oil-related problem, but do you want to deal with that?) The Saab OE 0W-30 full syn oil also meets the new GM eco-spec, but I'm not comfortable with that oil weight in a Saab turbo.
