Well, if you are using a Mechanical Boost Gauge (you had to run a tube out to a vacuum line), then you are looking for just a 12V dimmer circuit to control the LIGHT in your boost gauge, correct?
If that's the case, use a multimeter, set it to dc voltage, ground the black terminal to a grounding point on the chassis, and then probe each of the wires in the dimmer switch -- the one you want to tap will be the one which the voltage goes up (to 12V) and down as you raise and lower the dimmer.
Don't cut the wire unless you have to. Instead, use an 18-gauge tap-in squeeze connector (Radio Shack or similar). Works Perfectly!
