Headlight connector working loose

For the past several weeks I have been getting the "Front headlight failure" message intermittently on my '99 9-3 SE. I can tell the light is definitely out. Last week I took the connector off and it seemed to be a it loose. After I reattached it, the error message did not reappear and the light was back on. In less than a week, the failure code is again on. I'm going to clean the contacts today to hopefully cure the problem before the long dark winter gets here.
My question is, does someting other than friction keep the connector on? Possibly a tab is broken, though the other side seems to have the same friction fit. Do I resort to the Alaskan standard for repairing anything, duct tape? Any others having this problem? What corrective procedures have you tried that work?
TIA
