Used to be the proud owner of three and 1/2 '74 99's. One for the road and the others parked in a farmer's field for 'support'. I was a struggling student then and definitely low-budget, but I did all my own work (except for one motor rebuild). Had to rehab it from the previous owners transgressions; valve adjustment was done by applying a grinding wheel to the valve shims, clutch hydraulics replaced with a plastic tube and teeny-weeny hose clamps, etc...) but a great feeling to be able to say it was my blood, sweat and tears that got me to work each day.
Now, many years later, with a leased '02 Aero, I feel a bit removed from the car. Anything goes wrong, call the dealer (not much has tho). But I feel like I paid my dues for it too!
