what worked for me

It was a pain to get the drain plug loose, but this is what worked for me.
I took a 3/8" 8mm socket and put the box end of a 6-pt metric combination wrench on the hex head of the socket. Then, fit the socket in the drain plug bolt. This made a make shift wrench. I took the hollow handled factory lug wrench from the trunk and slipped it over the short handle of the combination wrench.
Go slow and ease pressure on to the 'cheater' bar, and it should give way. The tricky part was fitting a finger on my other hand between the frame rail and the socket head to apply pressure. I wanted to make sure the socket was securely seated in the drain plug so it wouldn't strip.
Don't give up. The new fluid is SO much better, and after seeing all of the garbage on the magnetic insert in the drain plug I wish that I'd changed the fluid sooner. Also, after the flushes make sure your final fill is 1.8 liters as stated in your owner’s manual. Hope this helps.
