Be careful about which warranty company you choose. Normally it is best to go with a manufacturer's extended warranty if available. Second best is to go with extended warranties offered by major Automobile insurance companies, such as Geico or Allstate. Third-party warranties are only as good as the warranty company behind them. MANY third-party warranty providers have gone out of business, leaving their policy holders in the lurch. Some have been accused of running Ponzi-like schemes. Also, many third-party warranty providers have questionable claims handling practice and simply refuse to pay for repairs that appear to be covered. The policy holder's only recourse is to sue the company and spend at least as much in attorney fees as is in dispute. This is an unregulated industry and the old maxim of Caveat Emptor applies. There are many fly-by-night operators. At least with a manufacturer or a major automobile insurer, you have some comfort that they are either regulated or not likely to take the money and run.
