Bottoming-out Revisited - 2001 9-3

A little over a month ago, I complained that there is a plasticy/rubbery crunching/rubbing noise from the front end of my 2001 9-3 upon going over most bumps. The dealer claimed that the car was bottoming out at most intersections at reasonable speeds! Granted, the shocks in this car are soft and the roads in New Orleans are terrible, but I was quite shocked.
Today, I was driving through a parking lot with small but sharp speed bumps. The car again made the noise, but only when BOTH wheels went over the speed bump. The car is definitely not bottoming out here, unfortunately this parking lot is too far from the dealership from them to test it here. Regardless, the car only makes the crunching/rubbing noise when BOTH wheels experience shock travel (ie both wheels go over the speed bump), but it makes no noise when only one or the other goes over.
<Deep breath!>
So, should the shocks/suspension make any noise during compression/extension? If not (and my car certainly is), what might be causing this? I don't have many tools or a jack down here, but is there anything I can check out?
Thanks!
