That's one thing to not forget.
The oil might last for 15K but if there is no oil in the engine after 10K it will do you no good.
Granted, "most" cars doesn't drink oil anymore like in the "good ol days" but STILL, the car manufacturers of today claims that 1q per 1000 miles (or about) are ok and no repairs required.
And "some" cars do consume oil.
My sister in law ran her 2001 X5 low on oil in the beginning due to that the engine consumed oil. That engine takes 8q of oil with 15K intervals recommended but it also needed a quart every 5K with the 15K interval.
Now with settling on 10K intervals instead, we are down to 1 q lost and not really a big deal.
