Mid book is not too bad.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Good deal on a CPO 01 9-3 SE with 37k?, Robert C, Thu, 30 Sep 2004 11:39:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I assume it's an automatic with the premium pacakge stuff: ACC, dual power seats and upgraded stereo. If would have to be that to fit the numbers, if it's a stick or without premium we need to figure down a bit.
KBB wholesales is $15,900, retail is $19,700, "mid book" is $17,800 so $18,000 is not unfair. This assumes there are no other contignencies like a trade in.
I would hope that the car is in absolutely perfect condition and a desireable color combination. Most dealers will start a little high and gradually reduce the price as the unit ages in inventory.
The #'s Jim quotes make sense to me too, except the part about the market is flooded and take off another 10-20%. So assuming Jim's right about the first part, the dealer paid $13k, it cost $2k ish to CPO the car including the warranty and the dealer wants $18k, or a $3k profit, not unreasonable, but high.
You can always offer them less, I liked the $15.9k number for you, the private party value and actual wholesale value, but you may not get it for that depending on that desireablity issue. In 90 days you might see it on sale for $15.9k, but if it's fresh and desireable, then who knows?
Try the dealer on, make them an offer, negotiations can be very friendly, if not walk away and consider it a harbinger of future service from the dealer.
