What's inside the bumpers?

The front-right (pass.side) corner of my bumper was tested quite harshly yesterday, when a woman failed to see me and my parked car and backed into me at a solid 3-4mph. From my viewing angle in the driver's seat, I thought for sure she had hit the fender and I'd see some badly disfigured metal. Nope, just missed by inches. She was driving a newish Maxima and her bumper absorbed her share of the impact. Not much damage on either car to speak of.

There's a fairly large scuff/scratch area that peeled of some spots of paint, but I'm also concerned with what's underneath the skin here. Is this some self-sacrificing stuff that needs to be replaced? What's inside there? Since I was inside the car when it hit, I couldn't see how badly the bumper flexed inward, but nothings loose at all, and you can still feel the same amount of resistance behind the bumper as the other front corner.

My options:
1. Have the front bumper repainted at her expense (and get rid of all those ugly stone-chips at the same time).

2. Have the bumper removed and inspected/repaired at her expense, plus repainting.

Sounds like a no-brainer, I know. But I don't really want to rape her over a simple bumper bump. But if it's really something that should be check out more professionally, I'll take it in.

BTW, Why does the horn on Saabs only work when the ignition switch is on. That really cost me here, and I'd love to know the logic behind it.

Thanks,
Brian
