I was driving home last night and started out on this stretch of highway that has nothing for 80 miles. Beautiful scenary onlong the Columbia gorge was keeping my attention and before I knew it I realized that I had started the most deserted part of the drive. I was well into nowhere and notice my gas gauge was in the red...the SID/D.T.E was reading 58 mile left until empty. I slowed my speed to a causual 65mph and 2250rpm and ran possible scenerios through my head for the next hour. AAA?? Hitch hike?? And what would the road be like when I finally ran out...a big turn, up hill or no shoulder?? I couldn't bring myself to think of a state trooper pushing my Viggen with their steel bumper. Or leaving my white water kayak on the roof. As the SID counted down the miles...5,4,3,2,1,and then 0 I had 6 miles left until the major hwy...and finding a gas station. I counted mile markers so I could report my location.... and I kept driving. Making a sharp corner the car began stumbling...tripping the CEL and then kept going. I made it to the highway...and over Columbia for gas.
Ssshooo....that was close. Lessons learned... without the consequences.
