I just recently had to buy a lbf-in torque wrench Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Thu, 21 Oct 2004 08:56:47 In Reply to: Re: Thanks guys, It was bearing caps not sprockets., Dean, Wed, 20 Oct 2004 12:51:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Due to that modern cars having skinnier and longer bolts of dubious quality.
Especially the camshaft caps on the V6 engine can easily be over torqued (stripped/broken) by the brain-spine-elbow-feel torque settings.
They use M6 bolt of low quality so even if you are used to the feel/strenght of good ol M6 bolts you can't apply that to these. The bolt just stretch and stretch and finally breaks.
That's why I had to get the lbf-in torque wrench.
Torque setting for the V6 cam caps are 8Nm (6 lbf-ft or ~72 lbf-in).
