Ethanol in fuel is corporate scam. ADM, one of the biggest ethanol producers is also one of the largest contribrutors to congressional races. (1) The promise was that the use of ethanol would to boost corn prices. GUESS what, corn is less per bushel than it was before ethanol was used in fuel. (2) As Dean stated and has been reported elsewhere. Ethanol blended fuel produces lower gas mileage. Depending on the vehicle 5% - 10% lower. Long haul trucking firms have proven that with their own studies. So much for cutting down the dependency on foreign oil reserves! (3) Ethanol blended fuel removes water from your vehicle gas tank. SORRY, if you add ISO-HEET to your tank that is a true statement. But virtually EVERY gas station's underground gas tanks have water in them. So, any ethanol added to the underground tank will have hydrated with water from the dealer's tank before being pumped into your car's tank. (4) If all that is not bad enough, taxes are reduced on the ethanol blended fuel in many states, because of the added cost to make the fuel and to promote its use. So our road taxes collection is lower. Therefore we have less money to build and/or maintain our public roads.
