It is a fairly thick bundle of wires running behind speedo cluster.
I had one 900 where the speed signal wire had started to touch some frame work in the left upper corner of dash, shorting out the speed signal.
This didn't blow any fuses though but created bad shifting pattern and TCM light coming on.
It's difficult to be more specific and I hope that they have some sort of electrical diagram for your car.
What they could do is to check each wire out by the selector switch harness and see if any of them have an obvious short to ground. But if they don't have a diagram they wont know what they are suppose to see when checking the wires.
Just as a test. Have them disconnect the connector at brake light switch. One of the wires from selector switch goes to the brake light switch and I have seen them go bad.
