60K on ANY tire means they will be very hard. Generally, after about five years, regardless of mileage, if you have not replaced tires, you should.

The longer a tire is meant to last, the harder the rubber, which in your case means that the traction ability, and the ability to withstand 'bumps' is decreased. A tradeoff, as tires in this category generally give better mpg, and longevity but at the expense of ultimate traction.

Do not know where you live, but most on this strand invest in dedicated snows. I have ContiExtremes, which I am happy to note handled our 3+" we had today very well. They are all-season 'W' rated tires, so I was not expecting much in snow performance.

Dean on the other hand, who is west of Kansas City, puts dedicated snows on both his and his wife's. If I had my choice, I would run the Conti's only in the summer, and Nokian snows in the winter.

You might look at the Nokian WR's, which are the "Arctic Circle' version of an all-season tire. I ran Nokians in northern Wisconsin when we lived there, and would not run without dedicated snows if I lived in a snowier part of the country.
