On Monday morning I picked up my CPO '99 SE LPT (55k) after getting a new engine installed. 3 weeks ago, the oil light came on, had it towed (free roadside assistance) to the dealer. They decided to replace the engine rather than spend time trying to break it down and diagnose the problem. No questions asked, no hassle, no problems, a free loaner car and a car wash. The service manager said the job was over $9k.
I cannot imagine what I would have gone through with an aftermarket warranty. For me, it was a matter of "here's a loaner--we'll call you when it's done".
I was lucky enough to find a 99 that was put into service in late 00, so all told, i'll get about 3 years on my CPO (expires this Sept.).
I consider myself smart for going with CPO, will sell it before it expires, and will never own a car (saab or otherwise) that isn't backed by the manufacturer.
