but, more realistically speaking, my friend's shop just paid $2695 for a 2000 B235 with around 80K on it and it was the only one available at the time anywhere. It did not come with the starter, alternator or turbo. I was quoted $1000 for a good short block last spring and no one (Goldwing, Swedish Spares, Weber Bros. even had a complete engine.
It is frightening how little sludge is needed to kill these engines because of that screen on the pickup and it's being jammed against the bottom of the sump. I autopsied one last night ('99 wagon w/70K) that had a relatively clean sump and top end. There was a monolayer of carbon bits uniformly coating the screen and a small amount pooled in the well in the sump below the screen, total volume around 1/8 of a teaspoon. That's unacceptable for a modern engine. It's a miracle the faiure rate is only 4%. Over 200K it will probably be much, much higher.
FWIW, I paid $15 for a wanted ad here and got one so cheap I'd be embarrassed reveal the price.
