This does not sound right at all. Maybe the TB should be looked at for deposits. And there may be a software update that deals with TB operation. The ECU can sometimes increase the RPMs when it is having trouble with other inputs and the higher RPMs can be a failure sign.
I would start by looking at the state of the plugs to see if anything there does not look right.
