Very likely there is a small chip you didn't notice before, and yes, temperature changes will sometimes cause enough stress for a crack to form from the chip that was previously stable and travel across a window.
If you are interested, the crack origin can be located by looking for waves/ripples in the crack, usually with 10x magnification and a light (flashlight) shining on the crack. The waves/ripples are curved and the crack travels into the convex side of the wave/ripple and out of the concave side. Observing which way the cracks traveled will lead you back to the origin. Have fun, it takes practice to get the light and viewing angle worked out so don't be surprised if you have trouble finding the origin. Note, too further complicate matters, it works best with the light on the opposite side of the window from where you are viewing.
