All:
Less than 2 weeks after receiving my car ('99 SE 2.3 LPT, 55k) back from the dealer with a new (ahem . . . "rebuilt") engine, she's being towed yet again.
The "new" engine has about 250 miles on it (oil pressure problem prompted Saab to spring for a replacement), and was breaking in nicely. She felt solid but a little underpowered (i assume this was due to the tech II reset).
I was heading into the city on the Kennedy in the express lanes and attempted to pass a car--i accelerated moderately and the engine shuddered a bit--almost like it was cutting out or the transmission was slipping. Service engine light flashed several times then went to solid. When I backed off of the accelerator, everything seemed to be fine. Was able to exit to surface streets without incident or injury.
Anyhow, the car runs normally except under moderate acceleration. The transmission didn't go into "limp home" mode, and there was no noticeable noise. Any clue what the problem might be?
It's a bit difficult to describe the symptoms accurately, but it was kind of a "bucking" or "jerking" when the accelerator goes past a certain threshold. It's almost like the engine is "confused". I was thinking DI, but assumed that if the DI cassette went, that was it--dead car.
Once again, I'm *VERY* happy I went CPO--the repair and two bills are really starting to pile up. I can honestly say that over the past 2.5 years I've owned the car, Saab has paid nearly as much in repair bills as I did for the car. The last bill alone was over $9000.
Regards,
Scott
