Old one went bad. The general consensus seems to be that the Mitsubishi turbo would increase boost, and provide some performance improvement.
How much, I don't know. I bought a BSR Stage 2 ECM a couple of years ago and have been quite happy with the power & performance. So this isn't something I NEED. I'm really looking at it as potential insurance against future failure. Most here seem to thing it is more reliable and less likely to be affected by the PCV mod/no mod problem among others.
Looking at it, I'd be very surprised if the exhaust manifold needed to be changed. I'd think that attachment flange would be the starting point for any packaging design work that would have happened back when the 9-5 was developed. If it did, I can assure you, I won't be upgrading the turbo.
By the way, there was a fellow named Dean that used to post a lot on the Chevy Truck/4WD newsgroup a few years ago. That wouldn't have been you, was it?
