Head bolts done

I replaced the head bolts on my 100k mile 99 9-5 this afternoon. All were fairly loose (~50 ft-lbs to loosen), some more than others. The two nearest the timing chain had oil on the threads, while the others were bone dry. The inside of the engine looked very clean, a much paler shade of orange than in Shea's pics down the page and everything nice and oily. No apparent wear on cams or sprockets. The only area that looked remotely like it could be considered sludgy was along the face opposite the chain sprockets, but it was only a thin dry surface coating that appears solid and didn't look like it was going anywhere. All this on a steady diet of 3-4k mile dino oil changes by the previous owner.
The only headache was replacing the valve cover gasket, which is a royal pain. I fought with it for a while before giving up and running a very thin bead of silicone in the groove to hold it in place.
