Audi, BMW and Mercedes are all much larger companies that might be able to rationalize having more choices in powertrain availability. Remember, this is Saab. I'm not sure about audi and BMW's product mix, but here in the US, just about no one wants a MB with a stick. Resale on one is the pitts, and if you are not convinced of that just ask me. I bought a 1984 190 E with a stick new and after 2 years, could not give it away. Even the dealer that I ordered my 1986 190 2.6 ( auto) would not take it on trade for any price!
There is always someone who will buy one of anything that a company makes but saab has to play the numbers, like other companies.I would guess that in the few years that the V-6 9-5 got sold here, prhaps only 5000 per year got the V-6. After all, total saab sales here might have been about 40,000 units, and breaking that down to 9-5 versus 9-3, maybe half were 9-5's. There are far more Linears and even Aeros on the road than Arcs. To make two distinct versions of the Arc and then hop that the stick would have sold well is a stretch in my mind
