One sad thing is that when they are done watering down and exclude as much as they can, they are left with a handful of cars that are affected when it comes to recall or service bulletins and such.
I have never seen one of those sprockets break so it sounds really strange that it would happen if your car is not part of the bad batch even though your VIN doesn't fit.
That kind of makes me wonder if they tried to minimize the damage so much that it possibly let some "slip through the cracks".
We see it from time to time when they come out with service bulletins spanning certain VIN and we know by heart that far more cars are affected by the same problem.
