I owned a '94 9000CS and now have a '99 9-5.
The 9-5 has MUCH less trouble. I do basic maintenance and it just keeps running along. At the same mileage in my 9000, I was pulling the alternator (wow, what a job), replacing timing chains (arggggg!!!), and always doing something to the car. The 9-5 is much, much more reliable, and very easy to work on.
The Haynes/UK manual is great!
