I know it is not the reality but:
go to http://www.fueleconomy.gov and play with the side-by-side comparos. It is real fun to look at all the car one owned and compare them together.
The figures are not real life, but it is comic to see that some drivers are getting better mileage than advertised.
Wishful thinking? Or do they talk about the SID figures (instead of real distance divided by real gallons as measured at the pump) ?
BTW, regarding regular/premium gasoline mileage, I found out recently that some cars are very sensitive to fuel grade. Our previous car, a VW Cabrio 2.0L, would get around 10 Liter/100km - 24mpg (in summer, highway, 120 km/h) on regular fuel.
When filled with premium, car mileage was better by 1 Liter/100km (2.4 mpg) which would offset the price difference. And the engine was more responsive by a bit.
Premium was what VW specified for the 2.0L.
So now, it's time to test that theory on the 9-5 !
Cheers,
magalar
