9-5 and Squeaks and Rattles..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Squeaks and Rattles?, mkmojay, Tue, 22 Feb 2005 23:35:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I own a 2000 model with nearly 132,000 miles. Even after accumulating this many miles the car only has three sources of squeaks and ratttles.
1) The front sway bar bushings squawk like a rusty hinge when traversing parking lot speed bumps at temperatures below freezing. Cause is a loss of factory lubricant in the bushings after 2 to 3 years time. Cure is re-lubing or replacing the rubber bushings when they get noisy. Or living in a warm climate.
2) The wood fascia on the dashboard squeaks and "chitters" as it moves against the plastic dashboard behind it. Saab issued a TSB identifying how to remove the fascia, place 6 strips of felt on the plastic supporting dash, then re-installing the fascia. This may have been addressed in the production process since the 2000 model year. I just tug on the fascia to stop the sound when it becomes annoying. Again this one is temp related, rapid changes in temperature, both heat and cold.
3) Sliding sunshade beneath the glass sunroof will rattle in its fully retracted position. No permanent cure that I am aware of, but sliding the sunshade forward slightly, then pushing it back into its fully retracted position with just a little gusto will stop the sound - until the next day.
All minor issues which can be easily eliminated or accomodated.
