No idea what took me so long to switch from a dealer to an independent for my 99 9-5 V6 Wagon w/90k miles. Darn timing belt went, 30k after it was replaced by the dealer. Turns out back then they weren't replacing the idlers at the same time, SO: Kathup, kathump, kathump and a trip to Swedish Auto near the airport in San Diego. I think Rafael there eats, drinks and breathes Saabs. Fixed it, suggested I replace the water pump while he was in there -- makes sense on a car that age -- did the 90k service. Price was reasonable PLUS I didn't have to wait days for an appointment. He also came up with a good fix for a stripped oil plug bolt, though I'm sure if I keep the car I'll replace the pan. ($700 job, but it's still cheaper than buying a new car.) It will be interesting to see how long this car will go before the new car vs. repair tips in favor of a new car. I'm the original owner.
