Mike, I have a 00' 328 stick and a 03'Aero. Better handling, I give
the edge to the 328, even with the suspension improvements on the
Aero 02' and up. The automatics in the 328 are more sluggish than
the manuals in the 328. For overall driving I prefer the 01' Aero.
I have driven my neighbors 01' Aero so I am familiar with both cars.
You can add the new sway bars from 02' and up which will help the
Saab in handling. There are many aftermarket products with the 328
that can vastly improve that cars power and handling with such a
variety of choices at your fingertips. With the Saab aftermarket
choices, it will be limited and more expensive. I would wiegh out
the purchase price of both cars, and know what can be done down the
road to improve one or the other. The only problem I have had with
my 00' 328 is the replacemnt of the control arms which were done
under warranty. It is a given that the control arms on this car will
go bad between 28k and 50k miles, so check to see if these were
replaced on the 328. Both cars are rated very safe, we always tend
to forget that factor when purchasing.
