Well, this will not really answer the question, but why not contribute on a Friday afternoon? Central rear is the safest position in the car according to all the accident reconstruction research I have read.
We have twin boys, now a year-old; for the first seven months or so, we used Graco bases on Snug`n`Rids baby seat, mounted rear-facing in the outboard left and center positions, which left enough room for an adult to squeeze into the passenger side rear to watch over them. When loading or unloading, one adult took one kid.
When we moved up to Britax Marathon seats, still rear-facing orientation, we couldn`t really use the same configuration because of the width of the central seat, so they both have outboard positions, and we take one each from either side of the car. We use a convex mirror that sits on the central headrest in combination with the rearview to see how the boys are doing. Not sure what to do when we turn them around to forward facing this spring, so any suggestions are welcome.
As for the sun problem, consider turning a pull-down shade sideways between the front seats, using the rear pockets to hold them in place, or use a bungee and hook through the front seat headrest support post... I can see it my head, but can`t describe it correctly.
Regards,
CrNiFe
