Just had the belt done on my 2001 9-5 V6. SAAB will do the belt without the 60K maintenence work. At first my dealer insisted that the 60K HAD to be done. I called SAAB USA and spoke with them regarding this issue. SAAB USA agreed that the 60K maint. was not mandatory to have the belt replaced by SAAB. Of course I elected to have SAAB replace the following components: Tensioner(276.00) Timing Belt pully (88.00) Serp Belt (87.00) Serp Pully ( 51.00) addtional labor 1.5 hrs at 82.00/hr Tax, title, first child and the total came to 696.00. Free belt and labor, but I felt that all the timing components be replaced and the serpintine since it was all apart.
Now I could of had the beltdone with the 60K main w/o the added parts for about the same, but I felt uncomfortable with just replacing the belt! One bad pully, one failed tensioner and a major engine overhaul would be in my future.
Just don't let the dealer insist that the 60K main IS REQUIRED, call 1800SAABUSA and complain, they will call the dealer for you and set them straight on SAAB's obligation to replace the belt under warranty terms.
