You can get the tools on ebay pretty cheaply of late. Worth having but I'm sure others have gone without. Locking tool is nice if you want to do the cam seals (to break loose/torque the sprocket bolts). The gauge piece also lets you be VERY accurate in the timing. There's a publication (I can look it up when I'm home) that I have pages from for the Catera procedure. It's a book that gives timing belt procedures for just about anything; it's updated annually I believe. I also have the factory manuals and the WIS. I find the Catera instructions the easiest to follow for the timing steps. Take your time and it will work out perfectly. Do the wp and t-stat while you are there. I wouldn't do it w/o the tools.
