So far, the wheels and tires have been fine. I am careful about potholes with alloys and low profile tires as I had problem after problem with my 1992 SAAB 9000 Turbo and the very 'soft' 16" 3 spoke alloys that went out of balance with the slightest pothole impact. So now I watch where I'm going, perhaps obessively. It certainly is a trade off - a little firmer ride, crisper turn in, more direct link with what the car is doing, etc...at the expense of harshness and having to watch out for big holes.
I am so impressed with this car so far that I think I'll go with a WRX STi (minus the wing) when our old '93 Legacy AWD Turbo gives up the ghost. The 250hp of the Legacy GT is a lot of fun (although still in its break-in period so taking it easy for now)I can only imagine the STi's 300hp, 300ft.lbs. and AWD!
If you get to the point of considering a Subaru purchase, drop me an email - I did it all on the internet and set up a bidding war between three prominent dealers. We ended up paying about $2,000.00 below 'dealer invoice'(24,900.00), considerably lower than the $26,000.00 average transaction price for the car quoted in Edmunds. Quirk Subaru in Bangor was the low bidder by far (about $1,400.00) and no monkey business when I drove up to finalize the purchase.
Good luck and happy motoring.
