I have a 2000 9-5 2.3lpt automatic with 59000k miles. Started noticing a rough idle when at a stoplight. It would lose about 200rpm and then go back to the normal 1000rpm idle. I took it into the dealer and they said that it was in a bad need of a tune-up and needed the 60K service. I begrudgingly had the dealer do the 60K service (wow, that $mart$!) and they also replace the serpentine belt.
The service did not fix the problem, but based on some of the post I have read, it seems like this may be a known problem. So I have been trying to "live with it". However, last night on the way home I started getting a dramatic drop in rpms at stop. The car almost stalled and the dash lights dimmed out. I put the trans in neutral and gave it some gas. The rpms wavered between 1000 & 1500 even though my pressure on the gas pedal was constant. After that incident, I was able to drive home and to work this morning with only a couple of rough idle incidents.
I’m taking it back to the dealer tomorrow. But I would like a 3 rd party opinion. Any ideas or suggestions?
