Broke pcv nipple into valve cover

Just finished a headbolt retorque last night on 2000 9-5lpt wagon. As i put the pvc nipple back in, I snapped that little "flange" on the end of it. Can't see where it went. I put a shopvac to the hole in the valve cover and the pcv hoses but don't know if I got it. Should I pull the valve cover again and look around? If it is in there will it just grind up, or smear itself everywhere. I know on my b202 valve cover that area is sealed save for a little u-bend vent pipe. But from what I remember on the 9-5 valve cover there is a slot that opens right into the cam area. This is my wifes car, so I really don't want to screw it up. Thanks
