I agree.
I just installed one on my wife's 9-5, with auto dimming mirrors.... more$$$
To remove the old one, role down window, or swing the mirror housing out, whatever works for you, and rotate the mirror outward, look in behind the morror, from the door end, and you will see wire spring ends poined back at you. You need to move those inwards (towards there center), to unhook them and release the spring a bit. Then remove the mirror, unhook whatever wires on on there. To replace, put the wire sring back and hooked in, connect wires, and push into place. I put a small amount of silocone grease on the spring wire and 'cone' of the plastic, and it snapped into place with very little force. So you could try that or something else as a lubricant if you feel that it is taking excessive force. I seem to recall when doing mine 2 years ago, that it was not so easy.
The vehicle was designed with ergonomics and visabilty in mind, with the euro mirrors, and many consider the flat mirrors to be dangerous. The B pillar is big and fat, and for most men or taller women, the seat position makes that pillar a huge limition of vision.
