End of GM Zeta platform - no new RWD 9-5?

The linked article on USAToday.com dicusses the cancellation of the Zeta platform: the global rear-drive platform intended for GM mid-size vehicles.
I wonder what affect this has on the next 9-5? Was this platform intended for the next 9-5, or does GM have another viable RWD platform. The Zeta platform is "basically an evolution of the current chassis that underpins the 2005 GTO, which is assembled in Australia by GM's Holden subsidiary [Autoweek forum]. GM was going to manufacture Zeta-based RWD vehicles in the US, but the future of North-American based vehicles are now up in the air. It sounds from the article that markets outside the US may still see/use this platform.
GM seems to want to focus on delivering SUVs. Gee, that's a smart move what with the rising cost of gas, etc. Man, I wish GM would spin off SAAB, and let someone who cars about making cars run the company.
