help - check engine - let it not be another ECU Posted by Peter [Email] (#2804) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter) on Sun, 26 Aug 2001 10:33:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm looking for rays of hope before I call for an appointment in the morning. I was driving this morning and when I put the clutch in at a stop light the car stalled / check engine came on. I could restart it, but only if I maintained my foot on the accelerator. The rest of the trip, anytime I put the clutch in and allowed the rpm to reach idle it would stall. The car is obviously in 'limp home' mode now.
My car is '99 2.3-5spd with 72k miles. I had the ECU replaced ~1.5 yrs ago. I had the throttle body cleaned near that time as well. The banjo bolt recall was done about 2 years ago. Ideas?
When my ECU went last time it had the check engine light and an occasional shudder, but no stalling. I saw the posts last week from Bill H and others. One pointed to throttle body, another to the turbo. I've seen occasional white smoke on start up, but not the dreaded blue-black. Plus it sounds like the turbo replacements may have been unneeded in some cases (ie, it hasn't always solved that problem).
