I won't go so far as to say that you can't hydroplane a fwd car because of course you can if you are going fast enough. But I will argue that it is harded to do than with a rear drive car. The reason is gravity. FWD cars have more of their weight on the front tires (the tranny, differential, drive gear is all in front) and so are better able to push water out of the way. As to the lighter loaded rear tires on an fwd car, the front tires clear a path for them. If you are going fast enough to hydroplane, the water doesn't have time to refill the path by the time the rear tires get there.
