questions about upgrading 1999 9-5 remote key

I just bought a terrific used 1999 9-5 SE SportWagon, and the very first thing I want to do is replace the huge key fob remote transmitter (the so-called "turd") that came standard with the 1999s. It's almost embarrassing how awful those are!
I've read through all the relevant 9-5 threads on TSN and understand that I can upgrade to an integrated key & remote (which I definitely want), and that I should probably change the antenna at the same time. I also know about the necessity to take along both my existing keys and remotes when I have a new remote key cut and programmed by a Saab dealer.
I've seen 9-5 remote keys for sale on eBay---some blank, others already cut. They average about $40. Strangely, all these key remotes seem to come from Canada.
Questions:
1. Are these eBay keys really workable solutions, or are they just scams?
2. Will a Canadian remote work on my 99 9-5 wagon (which is a U.S. version)?
3. If I buy one of these to save some bucks, will a Saab dealer give me a hard time about cutting a new top or reprogramming the remote? (Obviously, that might vary from dealer to dealer...)
4. Am I better off just ponying up the $200+ and getting a brand-new remote key straight from a Saab dealer? (This is my third Saab in 15 years, after two previous 9000s, and I learned early on to use indie Saab mechanics rather than "official" Saab dealers whenever possible.)
Thanks in advance,
--Bill
