Varies from state to state, but generally
a) three times to fix the same problem, or
b) 30 days in the shop for assorted repairs, all in the first year, defines the vehicle as a "lemon." More precisely, it defines either the dealership as a lemon due to their incompetent service staff or the owner as a sleazeball trying to get out of his purchase. You need to have the paperwork pulled to find what the issue is. If it's a vague "doesn't shift right" or "runs rough sometimes," chances are it's a sleazeball PO. In either case, the price is often so compelling that you should jump on it! But do be sure the original issues were dealt with (or have a spare car to use as you work out the issue).
