This all started with the alarm on my 99 9-5 SE 2.3 deciding to go off for a second or so twice in the last couple days. Searches here showed water a likely cause, and as it had been raining I wasn't too surprised. I've pretty much figured out that the alarm module probably has a minor leak, but I'll deal with that later. I saw a bunch of stuff in the archives about clogged A/C drains, so I figured I'd better look into that as well.
The posts I saw were a bit unclear about which way was best to clear the drains - from the plenum or from the outlet under the car. I pulled the glove box and yanked the cabin filter to have a look in there and check for water. What a frightening experience - wet leaves and general unpleasantness. Filter all sorts of nasty and very blocked. I didn't have a new one so I just left it out for the moment. But I couldn't find any access to the A/C drains in the plenum, so I proceeded to blow them out from under the car. They didn't seem to be blocked - the air flowed through pretty easily (first 40psi, then 60psi), no obvious debris flying out. I dried out the inside of the plenum and vacummed up the junk, and sprayed the evaporator with Lysol.
I'm frankly surprised that any air at all was getting into the cabin. I'll get a new filter in there ASAP, but at least now the area will have a chance to dry out completely. Air flow into the cabin is now vastly improved. If you don't know when your cabin filter was changed last, it probably needs to be done.
The only question I'm left with is regarding the A/C drains - is there actually some way to access them from the plenum side that I missed, or do you have to clear them from below?
