For about 2 years now, I have been living with an intermittent "stuttering" (probably misfiring) problem with my 99 9-5 2.3 LPT.
I had the following problems:
1) Long crank times to start.
2) stalling at stops
3) stuttering or misfiring at various speeds and loads.
Yeesterday, the stuttering problem got worse all of a sudden and was very sonsisten on my drive home of about 15 miles. Right as I got near home, the CEL went on.
Based on info from this site, I figure the problem is either the crank position sensor, or the DI cassette. I suppose I could also be fouling plugs as my turbo is going. Though I haven't seen much oil film build-up in the throttle body.
Beofre I go through the hassle of have someone read the code, I'd like to know wheter or not a bad crank position sensor generates a code and will cuase the CEL to light. I've read some conflicting info on this. But, if it doesn't, I think I'd rather just buy the DI cassette and put it on since my suspicion is that one of these two things are the problem.
It is not as much the money issue,a s it is the hassle of taking the car to the shop. I can order the cassette and have it delivered to my door.
Thanks,
James.
